AfghanistanElectionData.org is an initiative of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) to promote accountability and transparency in elections in Afghanistan by opening up election data. This platform features and visualizes publicly available data on key aspects of the electoral process. Elections are an expression of the will of the people, and thereby elections belong to the people. Electoral data, therefore, should also belong to the people. Access to information about each phase of an election is fundamental to creating and reinforcing public confidence in the process and, consequently, the integrity of the election as a whole. NDI’s experience across the world has shown that in order for citizens to participate in, understand, evaluate and ultimately accept an election process and its outcome as representing their will, election data must be open to citizens.
